Spring Break

Do you have any plans for Spring Break? My kids have Spring Break coming up fast and it is looking more like a working vacation. These means I will be working and they will be vacationing from school. I am hoping that my youngest can get his multiplication facts nailed down during the break so he doesn’t have to fight with division, fractions and, duh, multiplication. My eldest wants to hang out with his friends over the break which concerns me since they are 18 year old boys that like to live fast. I wish I could take a vacation somewhere cool but I have a trip planned in May and I cannot take too much time off from work right now. Sigh. You got to love the rat race. Okay, before this post gets too whiney I thought I would share some of the cool pages I have been looking at for Spring Break inspiration.

Ideas for Easter and Other Musings

I did not get around to putting up this post yesterday and I apologize for that. Boy what a day I had though, very emotionally draining. I don’t want to go into it but my therapy was going to Barnes & Noble and picking up a new magazine and a coffee. I feel much better now. I am looking forward to the weekend and having time to finish some of the projects I have in the works.

Easter is coming up fast and I have been scrambling to find ideas for baskets, decorations, food etc. Not that I am having a large get together, but I have two kids that enjoy Easter. Here are a couple of pins of some things I have been thinking about for Easter.

WordPress for Dummies and a cute kitty!

I hope your Tuesday went well. Mine had a bumpy start. I stayed up a little too late last night and woke up a little too early to make a special breakfast. Late and early do not mix. Sigh.

Anyway, I have been having lots of fun writing my little blog. But, I am not too happy with the layout. It is not as cute as I would like it to be. I know HTML but learning all the different tools and how to utilize them is new to me. I have turned to the WordPress for Dummies book for tips. So far all of my posts have been made via my phone or my Kindle. I am going to be getting a laptop soon so hopefully that will make managing my content easier. I know most of my problems are newbie problems and I am sure I will work through them. I hope the book has some good tips!

My other issue is pictures. Because I have been using my phone and my Kindle for content I have not used my SLR camera for photos. I know once I get a new laptop this will change.

And now, the cute kitty! Isn’t this picture just adorable! I can still remember when my kitty was this small and would snuggle on my neck. Sigh, they grow so fast.

Have a wonderful rest of the day! ~ lauraj

Creating a Family Binder

As I got off the phone with my son’s new soccer coach and printed out all the rules, regulations, meeting places and times I realized folding it up and stuffing it in my purse does me no good.  It is time to make a binder.  To get some good ideas for a family binder I turn to Pinterest.  Here are some of the different ideas I am tossing around.

Don’t Let the Pigeon eat all the Cake!

This past weekend my little boy was invited to a birthday party.  Birthday parties are not ideal when you are feeling the pinch in your wallet.  So I tried to be creative, after all anything I buy at the store is mass produced and unoriginal anyway, right?  I scoured Pinterest looking for gift ideas for a little boy.  None of it was appealing (sorry) so I set to work asking my son (and making some suggestions) what his friend would like. A cape and mask set? Hmmm, I do not have enough fabric. Otherwise this would have been perfect.  I know, a decorated t-shirt!

So we grabbed one of my son’s favorite books and I went to work.  I traced the outlines of the character and the word bubble.  I then reminded myself that I need to purchase a BLACK fabric marker.  The set I have is very limited.  Five colors to be exact – red, purple, blue, green and yellow.  Once I finished the outline we realized that I did not have the right color for the pigeon. But then I remembered I had some puffy paints, and while not exactly the right color it would work.

I was pretty happy with the puffy paint as it had glitter, yay! (And the glitter was approved by my son.) Because I did not want the design on the t-shirt to be puffy I just painted the puffy paint on with a paintbrush.  This actually turned out nice because the drying time was significantly cut down. Another yay! (Since I, of course, waited until the last minute.)

Don't let the Pigeon eat the cake

At the end of last year’s summer season Michaels had a grab bag sale and I scored 12 beach buckets with shovels attached, a stack of hand puppet tattoos and other miscellaneous things for $3.00.  My son picked out a blue bucket, some hand tattoos and an alligator that grows a bazillion times the original size.  I wrapped up the t-shirt and included it in the bucket.  The birthday boy loved it!

The Beginning

Welcome to my first post. Chances are no one will see this first post but I have to start somewhere. I am Laura J. and I love to make pretty things. I will be sharing some of my creations along with pins and other things I find interesting. You can follow my pins on Pinterest under creationsbylj.

Tomorrow is Cat in the Hat day for my son’s school. I had grand plans to make a tee-shirt and a hat for the special day but my tummy had other plans. Oh well. I’m going to try to come up with something. I will post the end result tomorrow.
