Spring Break

Do you have any plans for Spring Break? My kids have Spring Break coming up fast and it is looking more like a working vacation. These means I will be working and they will be vacationing from school. I am hoping that my youngest can get his multiplication facts nailed down during the break so he doesn’t have to fight with division, fractions and, duh, multiplication. My eldest wants to hang out with his friends over the break which concerns me since they are 18 year old boys that like to live fast. I wish I could take a vacation somewhere cool but I have a trip planned in May and I cannot take too much time off from work right now. Sigh. You got to love the rat race. Okay, before this post gets too whiney I thought I would share some of the cool pages I have been looking at for Spring Break inspiration.

Quick Upgrade

Another weekend has come and gone. I hope you had a nice weekend. It was nice and sunny for us and we enjoyed getting out and about. I was sorry to see the weekend go. My youngest was happy though, he had a long awaited field trip today. He told me he was hoping the trip would be really far away so he could be on the bus for a long time.

Now for the quick upgrade. My son had a plain blue button up shirt that needed a little more oomph. A quick trip to Hobby Lobby to pick out an iron on patch and we were on our way to a quick change.  Sorry about the drastic color change.  What can I say, the sun came out to play finally!

This is now one of his favorite shirts to wear. Ordinarily he would grab a t-shirt but the addition of a military style iron on is enough to make him want to wear this shirt often.

Ideas for Easter and Other Musings

I did not get around to putting up this post yesterday and I apologize for that. Boy what a day I had though, very emotionally draining. I don’t want to go into it but my therapy was going to Barnes & Noble and picking up a new magazine and a coffee. I feel much better now. I am looking forward to the weekend and having time to finish some of the projects I have in the works.

Easter is coming up fast and I have been scrambling to find ideas for baskets, decorations, food etc. Not that I am having a large get together, but I have two kids that enjoy Easter. Here are a couple of pins of some things I have been thinking about for Easter.

Donuts + Eggs + Milk = Yummy Happiness

Remember how I was saying I stayed up late and woke up early the other day? I had a very good reason for my lack of sleep. Mmmm, and it was worth it! On Sunday we bought several donuts and didn’t eat them all. Everyone knows donuts are usually not so good the next day, well, maybe Krispy Kreme holds up but not other donuts. Not wanting to waste them I decided to make a little breakfast casserole out of them.

Donut Breakfast Casserole

6-7 stale donuts
1 cup milk
6 eggs
¼ cup of maple syrup
½ block cream cheese (use at least 4oz, use more if you like)
Large loaf pan or 8” x 8” pan

Cut your donuts into little cubes. If they are not stale then spread them out on a cookie sheet and bake on low heat until they are dried out. Then cool.

Mix milk, eggs and syrup together.

Cut cream cheese into small cubes.

Put half of your dried donuts in your pan and randomly place cream cheese cubes on the cubes. Put the rest of the cubes in pan and pour liquid mixture over cubes. Press down until all the donut cubes are moist. Cover and chill for 2 or more hours. I usually let mine sit overnight.

Preheat oven to 350 deg. Bake covered for 25 min, then uncover and bake for 35 min or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let it stand for about 5-10 min and serve. I like to top mine with fresh berries, syrup and powdered sugar.

You can double this recipe just use a 9” x 12” pan. If you don’t have donuts don’t worry, you can use any kind of bread for this recipe.

I hope you enjoyed my first recipe post. I know my family enjoys eating this recipe. This time around I actually sliced up the finished casserole and froze the slices. Then I can just pop it in the microwave for a minute or so and have a special treat for breakfast. My little guy is so lucky. I always had oatmeal for breakfast when I was a kid. He has Swedish pancakes with berries, waffles, and mini pancakes. He hates cold cereal; Lucky Charms can bring him to tears. I have no idea why but he has never liked a cold breakfast. Never. Anyone else have finicky eaters at home?

WordPress for Dummies and a cute kitty!

I hope your Tuesday went well. Mine had a bumpy start. I stayed up a little too late last night and woke up a little too early to make a special breakfast. Late and early do not mix. Sigh.

Anyway, I have been having lots of fun writing my little blog. But, I am not too happy with the layout. It is not as cute as I would like it to be. I know HTML but learning all the different tools and how to utilize them is new to me. I have turned to the WordPress for Dummies book for tips. So far all of my posts have been made via my phone or my Kindle. I am going to be getting a laptop soon so hopefully that will make managing my content easier. I know most of my problems are newbie problems and I am sure I will work through them. I hope the book has some good tips!

My other issue is pictures. Because I have been using my phone and my Kindle for content I have not used my SLR camera for photos. I know once I get a new laptop this will change.

And now, the cute kitty! Isn’t this picture just adorable! I can still remember when my kitty was this small and would snuggle on my neck. Sigh, they grow so fast.

Have a wonderful rest of the day! ~ lauraj

The Muumuu Project – Part 1

I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was filled with The Sound of Music, literally. My youngest watched The Sound of Music with me and sang “My Favorite Things” all weekend long. Such a great movie! My son asked if anyone had ever redone the movie and I looked at him with shock. I don’t think anyone could redo this movie, ever. They should just re-release it in theaters every ten years or so.

On Friday I said I would be sharing an upcyle of a huge muumuu I bought. I am going to have to share in two posts. The original project needed something extra that I did not have on hand so a trip to JoAnne fabrics is on the roster for today. I did manage to get something else made out of the dress. I am super excited about how it turned out…

A clutch! I love a little clutch instead of a big purse for times when I am just running into the store or am out at a market. I like to keep my essential cards, some change and a lip balm in mine. I have enough material left over to make another one.

Here is the before:

Have a great Monday ~ lauraj

Happy Friday!!!

I have been “blogging” for a week now. Thank you to anyone out there that has taken an interest in any part of my little adventure.

I don’t know about you but I am super excited for the weekend! A while ago I bought a huge muumuu at the Salvation Army. I really liked the pattern and thought it would make a cute skirt and maybe a matching clutch. I have set it out with a wrap skirt I bought a while ago at my favorite consignment shop, Savvy Seconds. I am going to do my best to take better photos with my “nice” camera as opposed to my phone camera.

Stay tuned on Monday for pictures!

Have a wonderful weekend! ~ laura j
